Boiler Servicing: Knowing Your Different Gas Boilers

At Royale Boiler Services, we have frequently sung the praises of regular and thorough boiler servicing. For most models of boilers, it is recommended that you service it once every 12 months at least. Whether you have oil, gas, LPG or more renewable heating sources; royale boilers will be able to help you.

One of, if not the most, common forms of heating in the UK is the tried and tested gas boiler. Gas boilers are usually found in residential and commercial properties in heavy populated areas. These can include; towns, cities and villages. Because these types of boilers are frequently found in heavily populated and condensed areas, they are found in a large percentage of properties nationwide.

It is estimated that around 23 million homes in the UK still have gas boilers as their primary central heating system.

One of the main questions our fully qualified heating experts get asked is; what are different types of gas boilers?

Knowing which boiler you have is essential for helping us to identify what your requirements will be. With years of experience delivering high quality servicing and boiler repairs in Stoke-on-Trent; we thought we would help by illustrating the 3 main different types of gas boilers.

Regular Gas Boiler

We start with arguably the most simple and common type of gas boiler. That of course being the regular gas boiler.

Technically, gas boilers only provide heat to your central heating system. However, when the boiler is used alongside a hot water cylinder, they can provide hot water to your bathroom, kitchen and anywhere else that may require it.

Because regular boilers are so widely used, it is of paramount importance they receive regular and thorough boiler servicing.

Combi Boiler

Becoming all the more common in recent years, combi boilers are a fantastic energy efficient alternative to conventional boiler types. Not only are combi boilers more energy efficient, they are usually the cheaper option to install.

The cheaper installation of the combi boiler and the money you will save on your energy bills further illustrates the combi boiler as the ideal option if you are looking to save money.

All of this being said, you might be asking; how does a combi boiler actually work? Well, a combi boiler uses the water pressure from the mains to power hot water directly to your central heating system. Because there is no need to store hot water in a tank or cylinder, these boilers are ideally suited to a small or medium sized house.

System Boilers

For the most part, system boilers operate like your traditional boilers. A system boiler provides heat to your central heating system and they require a hot water cylinder to provide hot water for your bathrooms and kitchens, much like your traditional boiler. Because of this, system boilers are often cited as having better reliability as well as being the better heating solution for large homes and commercial premises.

Where they differ however is in the fact that the boiler does not require a cold water feed or cistern. This is due to the fact that this system is built internally into the boiler itself.
