Heating In Care Homes Is Important

At Royale Boilers, we offer premium quality commercial heating services to a variety of different business sectors. We service all manner of commercial buildings including schools, pubs, offices and, of course, corporate buildings. Arguably, the most important type of commercial building we service is care homes. Royale Boilers provides heating services and boiler repair to premises in the care home sector throughout Staffordshire and the surrounding areas.

The needs and requirements of care home heating systems are different from other types of buildings.

This is because care home residents have very different needs when it comes to how temperatures can fluctuate. To put it simply, care homes can not get too hot. Perhaps even more importantly, they can not get too cold.

Because of this, we have decided to detail a few of the reasons why the heating system in care homes is so important.

Older People Feel The Cold More

As we get older, our skin becomes thinner. As a result of this, we feel the cold more. This can eventually lead to health complications, especially if you're exposed to colder temperatures for a prolonged period.

A 1 or 2-degree change in temperature can be felt quite harshly by care home residents. This can have a surprisingly devastating impact on their general comfort and overall health. As a result, it is recommended to keep care home temperatures between 21 and 27 degrees celsius at all times

You Could Anger Friends and Family of Residents

Following on from our previous point, most friends and family of residents will know and understand the importance of keeping residents warm and comfortable. If you let temperatures drop knowingly, you run the risk of angering the friends and family of residents.

By letting temperatures drop, not only could you potentially anger associates of your residents, you could also lose their trust. When family members or friends leave their loved ones in care homes, they are entrusting the carers with the overall well-being of that individual. As part of this, it is expected that you will provide warm and comfortable living conditions. By not doing this, a lot of trust can be lost.

Older People Can’t Get Warm Like Younger People Do

If you have ever felt uncomfortably cold, you will probably have attempted different ways to get warm. One of the most common ways to do so is by moving around or performing some sort of physical activity. This can usually achieve the desired effect of warming yourself up.

Unfortunately, older people do not usually have this luxury. When we move around and are proactive, it usually gets our heart pumping. This encourages blood circulation which warms our bodies. Older people have general problems with mobility. As a result, they can not move around to get warm as easily as younger people can.
