Signs You Need Your Boiler Servicing or Replacing

It is recommended that you get your boiler serviced at least once a year to ensure your boiler runs efficiently and smoothly. Whilst it is advised that you service your boiler once a year, there are a few telltale signs that your boiler might need an immediate service or, in more extreme cases, replacing.

At Royale Boilers, we offer extensive boiler service in Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas. We have been doing so for over the last 12 years and we are very keen to share our knowledge regarding correct and thorough boiler maintenance.

Your Bills Are Creeping Up For No Apparent Reason

Whilst 2022 is set to see energy and gas prices rise record amounts; you should still monitor how much they are rising however. If your bills are rising a significant amount and there is no apparent explanation, you might have a leak or your boiler might be observing general poor performance.

Unusual Sounds

It might go without saying but if your boiler is making an unusual sound, or more tellingly a hissing sound, you might have a problem.

Strange sounds are usually a clear indication that your boiler is starting to malfunction.

Poor Maintenance In The Past

A clear indication your boiler needs servicing or replacing is if the boiler has been poorly maintained over a number of years.

This clear telltale sign is much easier to identify than the others on this. While the other signs might rely on an element of interpretation; you only need to take one look at the service history to know that the boiler is in need of immediate attention.

Your Boiler Is Old

Again this sign requires less interpretation than some of the others on our list but it does not make the issue any less telling.

We have recently covered when you might need to replace your boiler in one of our most recent blogs. In that blog we detailed that the average lifespan is 10-15 years, however, sometimes your boiler might need replacing sooner.

It Takes Time To Heat Up

When you arrive home after a long day of work on a cold winter’s evening; the last thing you want is for your heating system to take an eternity to heat up.

Your boiler taking a long time to heat can be much worse than cold walls in your home; it  can be a sign that your boiler is breaking down. This might be because the thermostat in the boiler might be stuck in the ‘on’ state. You don’t have to be a boiler expert to understand that this is never a good sign.

The Boiler Is Frequently Used For Heavy Duty

This telltale sign is more specific to certain industries but it is just important to bare in mind when considering accurate boiler servicing. If your boiler is used for heavy duty purposes, such as in commercial buildings to heat an entire office, the boiler might require more frequent attention.

When your heating system is used for heavy duty purposes, it is put under considerably more stress. Luckily, one of the many services we offer at Royale Boilers is high premium quality commercial boiler servicing.

Bad Smells Or The Smell of Gas

No one wants bad smells in their homes. Not only might you need to go through record numbers of air fresheners, you might have a cataphoric problem with your boiler. Depending on the smell; your boiler could be observing numerous faults.

If the boiler emits a rotten smell it could be the boiler is starting to rot. This might be as a result of a leak. If your boiler is starting to smell bad, you should get it checked out by a professional as soon as possible.

Much worse than a bad smell coming through your boiler is, of course, the smell of gas. If you do smell gas coming from your boiler; make sure there will be flames ignited, leave your home and seek professional help. Your safety in this regard is paramount.
